Gearing Lyvlem

Almost exactly a year ago, I created a Death Knight for the Pants on Head Guild over on Jubei’thos. For those of you who don’t know, the guild is composed of the hosts and listeners of the Bind on Equip Podcast.

I got Lyvlem (Melvyl spelled backwards) out of the DK starting area pretty quickly but I haven’t spent a lot of time with them until recently. But finally, he reached 80 during a Halls of Lightning run a few minutes ago. So I thought it might be time to do another Post Series.

So, the goal one again, is to get Lyvlem a score over 5000 in the most efficient amount of time. He has 36 Emblems of Triumph, 1810 G, and no support network to speak of. So… let’s get started.

Random Acts of Goldness

The one area where I’m not so eager to help is giving Gold. It’s not that I’m starved for it. My concern lays in the possibility that if I just randomly start throwing gold around suddenly every level 1-25 character on the server wants to be my friend. – Nexdominus

Encyclopedia was in Kharanos a few months ago during one of the holidays events. She was completing her task when she heard a voice.

“Excuse me,” she heard. She turned a saw that it was a poorly-equipped gnome.

“Yes?” she replied.

“Could I have some money for training?” the gnome asked.

As it happened, she had just made some major purchases and actually did not have a great deal of  gold with her. But she considered for a moment and then decided to hand this young person 10 Gold.

“Thank you! Thank you!” replied the gnome. She then noticed as the gnome raced away to visit the trainer, that he had a friend with him as well. The friend although thanked her as he raced away.

She laughed to herself and then summoned her mount to leave. She hasn’t seen or heard from them again.

Blizzard and the Whole Gear Thing

I’m not sure how many time Blizzard has to say they won’t sell gear before people will believe them.Is Remote AH an Ingame Advantage?

Your drood is pretty well geared for not Raiding. - Mr. Stoneskin

Badges for Gear I said on the About Page, I haven’t played any other MMOs besides WoW. So, from what I understand, some of them have done that sort of thing. But I don’t get it.

Ultimately, the reason I played WoW is because I think the game is fun. Yes, there is a certain repetitiveness with the running the same instances more than once. But personally, I find that is actually something I enjoy. Getting a chance to experiment and find the best way or most efficient or interesting makes it fun. The thing is: no two runs are ever exactly the same.

When the badge change happened last summer, there was a such a hue and cry over it.

They absolutely need to get people running Heroics again, but is this the way to do it? Long term, I don’t think so. Short term, yeah, I can agree with it.Alex Ziebart

It seems at this point that this was indeed a long term solution.

But getting back to the original question, you can get all the gear you want just from playing the game as intended. As long as those of us, who actually enjoy the current situation and want to run 5-mans have reasons to play with and achievable goals, everyone should be happy. Even if you don’t like Heroics, one a day is not some great burden. Whywould Blizzard feel the need to change that? The answer is, they wouldn’t.

There is no reason for them to sell gear and every reason not to.

Another interesting thing to me in this 3.3-world: She is now exalted with the Kirin Tor, Argent Crusade, Wyrmrest Accord, and the Knights of the Ebon Blade – all without any sort of rep grind. When I think about how many dailies I did on my other toons to reach that point, this is pretty amazing.

I will still be buying things with frost badges for a while, of course, and will probably be working on her off-spec: Balance, I think.
